Lara Marks-Nash’s Letterboxes to ShelterBoxes quest got a real boost last week as she visited Nelson Bay, NSW. At the invitation of Rotary Club President and SRT, Scott Jarman, Lara attended the local club meeting. The guest speaker was PDG Bart Richardson, a WWII veteran and ex-POW who endured and survived the infamous Changi prison camp and Hell Fire Pass, working on the Thai-Burma Railway. Bart had recently returned from Japan as part of a 5-man POW reconciliation team, at the invitation of the Japanese government.
Mr Richardson is a longtime supporter of ShelterBox and was impressed by Lara’s fundraising initiative. Lara had the chance to present to the 54 members in attendance and for her troubles earned a pledge of $1,100 in exchange for a postcard from Darwin.
Have you requested a postcard yet? Help Lara reach her $5,000 total and provide Shelter, Warmth & Dignity for victims of natural disaster: http://letterboxshelterbox.wordpress.com
